There are two levels of files in a BuildingConnected project - project files and tender package files. They allow you to organize the folders in your files so that the right subcontractors can access the information you need.
What are project files?
Project files are files that pertain to the entire project, not just a specific scope or tender package. Project files should be uploaded from the project’s “Files” tab in order for them to be visible to everyone who was invited to the project. For instructions on how to upload project files please reference: How general contractors can upload files into a project.
What are tender package files?
Tender package files are files that only pertain to a specific scope or tender package. Tender package files are only visible to the subcontractors who were invited to that tender package. Tender package files should be uploaded from the tender package’s “Files” tab in order for them to only be visible to those subcontractors. For instructions on how to upload tender package files please reference the article, How general contractors can upload files into tender packages.
Note: subcontractors will be able to view files uploaded into the tender packages they were invited to as well as any files that were uploaded at the project level.
What types of files can I upload to project or tender package files?
You can upload any types of files to your project for your subcontractors to download.
File Limits
There is no limit to the number of files you can upload a project, however the maximum file size is 500 MB for an individual file.
Are subcontractors automatically notified when I upload files into a project or tender package?
Subcontractors are not automatically notified when files are uploaded into a project or tender package. As a best practice, we recommend that general contractors send a project wide message or tender package message letting all subcontractors know that new files are available for them to review. For instructions on how to send project and tender package messages please reference: How general contractors can send messages.
How do I rearrange project and tender package files?
Files are automatically listed in alphabetical order by name when they are uploaded at both the project and tender package levels. Although files cannot be rearranged manually, you can use the name of the files to organize them in a specific order.
Can I edit the name of a file after it has been uploaded?
Files names can be changed after they have been uploaded at the project or tender package level.
Hover over a file name and click the pencil icon.
Enter in the new name and click the checkmark icon or press “Enter (Windows) or "Return (macOS)" to save the change. Subcontractors are not automatically notified when a file name has been changed.
Can I delete files after they have been uploaded into a project or tender package?
Files can be deleted after they have been uploaded at the project or tender package level. To do this, click the "three-dot" icon next to the name of the file and then click “Delete.” The file will be immediately removed. Subcontractors are not automatically notified when a file is deleted.
What do the files look like for my subcontractors?
The same file structure that you have in your Project Files or Tender Package Files will be maintained for the subcontractor. Subcontractors only have one "Files" section so the Project Files will be displayed accordingly and as applicable, there will be a separate folder that is titled according to the tender package with any Tender Package Files.
