As a subcontractor using Bid Board, you can create measurements to quickly calculate distances, areas, and angles on project plans. The 'Measure' tool is available when you view a file directly on BuildingConnected.
Note: The "Measure" tool is only available to users who do not have Bid Board Pro. If you have Bid Board Pro, use our robust Takeoff tool. Learn how to use the tool here.
To use the "Measure" tool
In the "Files" tab of a project, click on a file to view it. Only PDF files up to 100MB can be viewed directly on BuildingConnected.
With a file open, click on the "Measure" ruler icon on the top toolbar.
Note: If your window is too small, you may not see the icons. In this case, enlarge your window or zoom out of your browser window until the icon appears. Alternatively, if you have Bid Board Pro, you will not see this icon and should use the Takeoff feature. Find instructions here.
A set of tools will appear. From this toolbar, you can first calibrate your drawing or select a scale from the drop-down menu.
To calibrate, click "Calibrate" in the toolbar and select two points on the drawing. From the top toolbar, use the "+" magnifying glass icon to zoom in or the hand icon to pan or use your mouse to navigate to find your calibration points.
Enter in the measurement in the "Define size" field, choose the correct unit type, and click "Calibrate".
The scale value will update based your calibration.
To calculate a distance, click on "Distance" and select two points between the distance that you want to measure.
To calculate an area, click on "Area" and select the points encompassing the area you are calculating. To close out the area, click back on the original point you created.
To calculate an angle, click on "Angle" and select points to create the desired measurement.
To delete a measurement, click on "Discard measurement" or press "Delete" button on your computer's keyboard.
Note: If there are multiple measurements, the more recent measurement will be discarded. To discard all measurements, continue clicking "Discard measurement" until all are removed.
Please note that the measurements made in this tool cannot be saved. If you are interested in takeoff capabilities and saving your work, you will need to have a subscription of Bid Board Pro. For more information, you can contact a sales specialist here.
