BuildingConnected’s network enables general contractors to search for subcontractors to invite to bid on projects. If you are a subcontractor who has not yet received bid invites or you are interested in receiving more, there are a few things to consider that may help increase your visibility to general contractors.
Update your company profile
Having a complete and updated company profile provides general contractors with important information that may increase the number of searches your company appears in, and thus, the number of bid invites you receive.
Your company profile includes information such as your company name, labor type, enterprise type, business type, website, tagline, logo, company address, and company phone number. For information on how to update these fields, please reference the article, “How to update your company profile on BuildingConnected.”
Update your work performed
Another factor that may impact the number of bid invites you receive is your “Work Performed” section. Your “Work Performed” section includes keywords about the scope of work your company performs. These keywords are what allows your company to populate in searches on the general contractor’s side of the platform, so it is important to ensure all “work performed” keywords are accurate and up to date. Please note that adding too many keywords outside your scope of work may negatively impact which bid invites you receive. As a best practice, we recommend adding only keywords that accurately represent the type of work your company performs.

Update your service area
Our "Service Area" tool is designed to help subcontractors control and indicate to general contractors where they work. Selecting the locations that you are willing to work in is important. This helps us to ensure that your company appears when general contractors search for companies where you do work. If your office has never accepted an invitation to bid, this defaults to the county your office is in and the surrounding counties. If your office has accepted bids on BuildingConnected, your service area is based on the office’s bidding history.

Contact general contractors you have worked with
If you have updated your company profile and work performed and have not yet received bid invites, we recommend reaching out to general contractors you have worked with in the past to inquire about upcoming projects being bid out through BuildingConnected.
